This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here I really wanted to like this book, but it is worse than the first one.The first book in the series started off okay, but then got bogged down in the hopeless romance between Lucien and Sam the instant attraction, can t live without the other type but it managed to keep a good pace This one, however, is excruciatingly slow Sam wakes up, alone and naked Everyone, including her father, thinks that she has been abused by Lucien, and despite what she tells them, no one believes her Eventually, sh I really wanted to like this book, but it is worse than the first one.The first book in the series started off okay, but then got bogged down in the hopeless romance between Lucien and Sam the instant attraction, can t live without the other type but it managed to keep a good pace This one, however, is excruciatingly slow Sam wakes up, alone and naked Everyone, including her father, thinks that she has been abused by Lucien, and despite what she tells them, no one believes her Eventually, she falls into a deep depression and decides to self medicate by purchasing drugs on the internet She gets caught, and her father takes her to a rehab center, of sorts, for counseling Sam complains the entire way, insisting that she is fine and doesn t need help, remaining oblivious to her self destructive ways. The first half of the book is just Sam complaining about Lucien being gone, pining for Lucien, insisting she is fine, calling those around her a bunch of names, being judgmental, oblivious to her own bad behavior, and somehow becoming an expert at kick boxing It finally picks up a little after she is kidnapped by some government agents and the Fosters have to rescue her Is she appreciative of their efforts No Instead, Sam just complains some , constantly going on about how she needs to be with her dad, when earlier she wished her dad would go away, and throwing a temper tantrum The book ends with some wild plane ride to West Virginia, another obvious twist and betrayal, and finding out that Cassiel was really Lucien in disguise. The grammar issues still remain in this book with missing punctuation, improper sentence structure, and a bunch of words that are hyphenated that shouldn t be shou ld, wa nt, de sire, and wh at to name a few It s all throughout the book and makes reading it a painful experience I don t know what happened, but I wish this author would edit her work or at least check the formatting The sentences are very short and choppy, all with the same beat and rhythm, and the descriptions leave a lot to be desired, suffering from what I call the laundry list A lot of modern books suffer from this, so it is little surprise that this one does too.Lucien being Cassiel in disguise and getting away with it was not believable Several times Sam is alone with him, and not once does she pick up that there is something strange She spends the entire book wishing for Lucien to return, and she doesn t notice that Cassiel has a lot of Lucien s little habits Instead, she finds out after they are trapped in a tunnel for a while, and he s injured, and it s a total surprise to her And is she grateful to have him back Nope Instead, she chews him out And that s the other problem I had with this book Sam is beyond stupid and self absorbed I get that she misses her boyfriend, but at some point, you d think she would start getting over it, especially since she knows there are bigger things at stake Dusty s character was a waste He s thrown in there, I guess, to give Sam some clarity on things, but it doesn t work In the end, I don t care about him And then there is Sam I know I ve mentioned it before, but she is so selfish in this book She also continues to do stupid things that make no sense When she meets the doctor, she immediately hates her Then, someone tells her some story and she trusts the doctor A few minutes later, something happens and she hates her again This happens for every character in the book First Sam hates them, then she thinks they re okay, then she hates them, they might be trustworthy, then she doesn t trust them Sam cannot make up her mind on whether she trusts someone or not and is very superficial in her judgement of others Sam is not a heroine or a protagonist She is just a shallow, self absorbed, boring character The similarities between this and Twilight continue to be uncanny In Eclipse, Bella goes on a suicidal bent because Edward left her and she spends the whole book pining for Edward In Equinox, Sam goes on a suicidal bent because Lucien left her and spends the entire time wishing he were back This is really just Twilight with aliens instead of vampires with the same boring, shallow main character. At this point, I am torn on whether I want to finish up the series I purchased all three books when they were on promotion, so I may read the third someday, but have my misgivings as to whether the series can improve at this point

CliffyThis again ended on a cliffy I liked this installment too I am a little frustrated by how Sam keeps regretting meeting the Fosters or living By this time I wish she d realize that her knowing the Fosters, while putting her in danger, isn t something to regret and just bwing a bit optimistic But I am not sure that is in her personality I love her anyways There was some strong profanity in this book.
