Larry the Dromedary takes the reader on a magic carpet read Dromedary ride into the imagination of E.M McCann The story bursts out through fast paced comic book action into exotic locales where all kids big and small will want to visit. There are references in the book that adults will enjoy as much as the kids, but it is really for kids from about 8 to 12 years old The story is really one of self discovery for the kids in the book and for the Mother who somehow got lost in the desert Enoug Larry the Dromedary takes the reader on a magic carpet read Dromedary ride into the imagination of E.M McCann The story bursts out through fast paced comic book action into exotic locales where all kids big and small will want to visit. There are references in the book that adults will enjoy as much as the kids, but it is really for kids from about 8 to 12 years old The story is really one of self discovery for the kids in the book and for the Mother who somehow got lost in the desert Enough of this, as I don t want this to be a spoiler.Read it yourself, I highly recommend this fantastic first novel by the author

When Charley and Aubergine s mother goes missing in the Zohar Desert, Charley opens a mysterious envelope that immediately summons to their door a camel who carries a briefcase and a business card Well, not a camel, exactly a dromedary, with just one hump His name is Larry, and he whisks the girls off to a series of madcap adventures as they search for their mom.The pace never lets up Nor does the humor and the fun It s like watching Saturday morning cartoons where no sooner is one crisis When Charley and Aubergine s mother goes missing in the Zohar Desert, Charley opens a mysterious envelope that immediately summons to their door a camel who carries a briefcase and a business card Well, not a camel, exactly a dromedary, with just one hump His name is Larry, and he whisks the girls off to a series of madcap adventures as they search for their mom.The pace never lets up Nor does the humor and the fun It s like watching Saturday morning cartoons where no sooner is one crisis resolved than another emerges The locations and the characters will delight anyone who has ever loved the tales of the Arabian Nights or desert romances from Rudolf Valentino to Beau Geste to Casablanca. In fact, E.M McCann plays with the tropes of some of the best loved desert stories In the White City, Larry brings them to Dakota Rick s Caf , where Rick gives them the first of many clues that will help them search for their mother In Meshkir, 9 year old Aubergine is chosen by King Kubar to be the next of his many wives When Charley rubs an old lamp, she summons Babaganouch, the genie who can grant them three wishes Among the dunes of the vast desert, they confront Ishtazar, the Sand Queen, and her army of scarabs Throughout these adventures, Larry the camel uh, dromedary is their constant companion and sets up the fun McCann loves language, and the word play comes fast and furious Waiters in tuxedos peered out from potted palms, and prepared to pounce on picky patrons Larry stuck out of the sand like a furry pretzel With a spiffle and a whiff, the genie skidaddledoodled out the front door We Won t Desert You, says Larry s business card.Part of the fun is the juxtaposition of the desert romance motifs with the atmosphere of summer camp To pass the time, Larry joins the girls in a rousing chorus of Ninety nine Bottles of Beer on the Wall Other songs are parodies of pop tunes that readers will have fun identifying.McCann has set the tone and the timing that will appeal to young readers who like fast paced stories with lots of puns, butt humor, exotic locales, and a long parade of oddball characters each oneoutrageous that the last It s all great fun and a wonderful romp of the imagination
