ratings on this book I can happily admit, that none of them are ever going to be me Just like Kennedy Clarke, our main character I m not going to sugarcoat this, neither am I going to be nice ________________ The College Experience I am going to get the first order of business out of the way This was the only aspect of the book I enjoyed It gave us a wholistic portrayal of the american college experience It showed its highs and its very realistic lows That was it One thingMoving forward swiftlyKennedy Somewhere up shitcreek with a stick up her ass Clarke So here s a confession This is my first ever time reading a TIJAN book I have heard so much hype around her writing and her stories I was over the moon excited to start Hate to Love You Almost immediately, I spotted that the mc for me was just not insert all the synonyms for nice.I wanted to slap her I read this on my kindle, and had it not been for the sole reason of loving my kindle too much I would have slapped the fucking thing Let me just go through a couple of my what the actual fuck moments 1The first was beautiful, but the second girl s eyes were a little too wide for her face to put her in the same categoryThoughts like these should not EVER be read by women that are already insecure about themselves I have a whole bunch of friends I know that constantly pull themselves down because they are worried about what other people think This is not okay 1.5The prettier one rolled her eyesI understand that Kennedy does not know their names yet, but c mon seriously 2There d been genuine dislike I couldn t pull that out of my assHer internal monologue got a little too much at times The visual image some of her wondrous statements and passing phrases gave me were unpleasant 3Text back Text back Then it did, buzzing close to the breasts that had been missing himThere s a certain element of sexiness and appeal that the reader has when experiencing the story of another couple But phrases like that visualize that appeal being snapped like a twig in half no mercy 4 This is i could write a thesis about it big and detailed However, if anyone actually does read my reviews I m going to go ahead and make it short and sweet for you, baby I really did hate Kennedy as a character I found her to be bitchy and whiny and very self centered She complained about the arrogance of men, when she had a bit of a god complex herselfI needed it I needed her My other option was my stuffy roommate and her friends I frowned Maybe I was the problem Nah I thought that there would be a strong case of character development in this story, and after all the hardships she went through she would change and not be such a mean character She was hypocritical to the people she dealt with, and fought fire with fire nearly every time Yes, she did have a valid reason for her anger and it may have messed her up big time However, the unwarranted aggression and violence that Kennedy resorted to each time got to me and personally, being a lover not a fighter It made me feel really upset It made me furious when she started getting angry at the people who did the same thing she was doing Her choice of words that she sometimes said to other people stung, she would get defensive and snap and this is a fictional character we are talking about I WAS AM SCARED OF HERWho is obsessed with you Who is obsessed with my boyfriend Who was starting to become obsessed with me Your blood is messed up Side note Through all the madness and the violence, we do in fact get the boyfriend like support with ShayHe chuckled, his eyes damn near melting me A switch flipped on just now You re here You re fine You re normal, and then you get mad, and it s as if you glow You light up the roomWhEn ShE GeTS MaD sHe GLOWS, Ladies and Gentlemen The Hate Hate is a very strong and passionate emotion It is intense Love is alsoa very strong and passionate emotion It as well, is intense Those who know my reviews, know that I thoroughly enjoy love hate stories because I actually do believe that there is a very very thin line separating both feelings and that s why it s easy for people to fall back together The hate aspect to this book had little to no reason We find out that Kennedy hates Shay because of something in the past that has nothing to do with him It was such a deep rooted hate for no actual reason and I could not get behind it whatso fucking ever They pretend they have this mutual dislike for one another, but neither of them have ever even met each other before It did not feel like I was reading about two college aged students It felt like it was 1 00 and recess time, so there must be drama in the playgroundDon t mistake a few heavy moans for a newfound liking of you I hated you on the first day of class, and trust me, that never thawedWe start off the book by understanding that Kennedy has made a set of three rules, and she has this immense hate for Shay Coleman She seemed so strong in her resolve, and her internal monologue was so steered in focus of hating Shay and it all vanished into thin airbecause he fucking kissed her I ve heard of magic dick syndrome which god help me, I refuse to read anything that contains it but I have never ever heard of magic lip syndrome When we finally hear why she hated him for the first time, it is confusing It is cliche It is cringey as hellThis was why I hated him This was why I d been adamant about not befriending him, about not being in a study group with him, about not looking at him, talking to him, anything Because I knew, deep inside, that I was going to fall in love with him I loved him I think I had loved him from the beginning, even from the first day I walked into that classThe Chemistry or lack there ofIt was infecting me, making me act all wanton, like a girl There really wasn t any for me I did not get the rawness of their relationship They just started making out and all through the friends with benefits phase, it was just a whole lotta fucking and a whole lotta groaning Why do all the guys groaaannn in the books if they are sexually satisfiedBecause we usually don t talk when we re aloneVery rarely can authors pull of a relationship that starts off on pure sex, because it creates no spark or sexual tension and so everything just kind of fizzles out It is a hard thing to do, and kudos to anyone who can I felt bad for cringing in theserious moments SeriouslyI don t want them to take all the normal stuff from my life I know we can t, not yet, but I want to have sex with you I want to feel like a normal girl again, like a, I hesitated, normal girl being with her boyfriendSide note The moment we realize that they are catching feelings for each other, is proven by SHOCKERviolenceWhat do you want He nodded to me with his chin If you haven t noticed, I m in I beat up two guys for you I think that says enough I m all in, KenzBecause beating up people shows a girl how much the guy likes herNot to mention, the whole third quarter of the book was not needed it dragged on There was too much substance to the plot line which in turn, made nothing significant I just did not like this one you guys groannnnnn

the heroine I tried to like her, I really did But I struggled with her for pretty much the entire book Her actions were so over the top and aggressive and she rubbed me the wrong way from the beginning I came off as a bitch, but trust me There was a reason I d learned it was better to start swinging first than to get hit by someone else, metaphorically speaking. It s one thing to be a strong woman who doesn t take abuse or crap from others Who stands up for herself and speaks her mind But it s another thing to go on the attack when no one has any ill will toward you Or lash out immaturely when you re unable to handle your emotions Kennedy had shields up a mile wide and high Not only against Shay from the moment she set eyes on him, but other girls at Dulane who she deemed weren t worth her time She calls herself a loner, but what she s really doing is prejudging everyone who comes in contact with her, and finding them wanting Shay Coleman was another Parker Stanson, my ex That angry thought chased another one fuck Parker and fuck Shay Coleman. As the book wears on, she gives quite a few hints that she s been burned badly by her ex boyfriend in high school and mean girls who treated her like trash And while that s unpleasant, and I felt for her, it just never excused the way she was behaving I was waiting for some huge revelation regarding how her ex traumatized her, and when she finally told her tale, it was confusingthan anything All it did was reinforce my opinion that she was behaving very immaturely The scene where view spoiler she grabbed a guy s junk and had to be physically pulled off of him was just one example of her lack of control Butthan that, I didn t understand it Was it because she was thinking of her ex boyfriend and lost her mind Because he looked at Casey the wrong way as they passed I kept waiting for a rational explanation, and none was ever given Just that she was just letting rage out from being mistreated in high school I felt like saying, Look I can t think of anyone who wasn t mistreated in high school at one point or another It s tough out there Get over yourself hide spoiler Kennedy kept reiterating how much she hated Shay How much he hated her, how she didn t even like his personality When clearly it was a flat out lie to herself in order to keep him at a distance I know this is touted as a enemies to lovers book, but at no point did I feel as if either genuinely hated the other or were enemies Shay would let her hurl insults at him, brush it off, and intentionally tease her to ruffle her feathers It was obvious he was only biding his time until he could wear down her resistance Butwhy I wasn t quite sure Any time he tried to show her kindness, she d lash out and talk trash about him.He was being a fucking decent human Fuck him I didn t need his kindness or his concern I didn t need the moments when he d show up to mess with me, or bring me coffee and ask me to sit in his Jeep with him Those moments might ve messed with another girl s head, but not me He was another Parker I d just forgotten for a brief second I wouldn t again.I found the amount of conflicts to be OTT Just one of them would have beenrealistic and focused The last one in particular was vaguely foreshadowed in between the main issues But nothing happened until the last 15 18% and we are just bombarded with no time for a realistically drawn out climax and resolution And speaking of last minute, I didn t think that Shay and Kennedy s serious getting to know one another chat should have happened 7% before the end of the story Kennedy was extremely insecure about their relationship, and needing reassurance about him because she didn t even feel as if she knew him When you have to ask your boyfriend, Who are you that late in the game because your interactions have centered around lust, then there s a real problem Now, that being said, even though I listed a lot of frustration, one thing that stood out in a positive light was undoubtedly Shay Coleman This hero was everything you could ask for andWhich made me a little sad that he settled for this girl who couldn t seem to treat him with the respect he deserved I gave this a two, because unfortunately it was just okay for me The heroine and the romance were sadly lacking for me personally But if you re a big NA sports romance fan, this could very well work out much better than it did for me I urge you to give it a chance if it sounds like it s a good fit for you.FOLLOW SMOKIN HOT BOOK BLOG ON
