A graphic novel that contains the first three adventures of Alaric Moebius and Basil Fox, two loveable thieving scoundrels. This graphic novel was both adventurous and funny, a combination I like very much The only drawback with this graphic novel was I just didn t fancy the art that much, but it wasn t terrible, I just got a so so feeling about it But the stories in this volume was really good and I m...

Disclaimer I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.Basil Fox is an ex SAS soldier relegated to the Queen s Guard after a botched mission, Alaric Moebius is a playboy thief who has been dating Basil s girlfriend Cathy whilst he was away on his last mission When Basil arrives at his girlfriends apartment to find her being kidnapped by Spring heeled Jack , he meets Moebius and together they try to find her before she ends up like Jacks other victims. From there they form an uneasy partnership and Basil agrees to assist Moebius with his work as they embark on 3 adventures which sees them coming into contact with The Collector who employs them to find rare artefacts for him. This is a highly enjoyable set of adventure stories that use a fair bit of humour with most of the fun being had with the quips going back and forth between Basil and Moebius Their relationship is one that strengthens with each story, each one thinking that they are the glue holding the operation together but both relying on each other when the going gets tough I liked both of the characters, they were engaging and very well portrayed as lovable rogues. The art was quite inconsistent, each story seemed to have completely different styles, this made it harder to connect visually with the work as characters features changed so much with e...

The Adventures of Basil and Moebius is a collection of three adventures of a pair of ne er do well thieves The art kind of threw me off as well as the over attempt at making the characters seem authentically British. The first story tells how Basil and Moebius meet Basil s a former soldier who is now one of the Queen s Guard Moebius is an Oxford scholar with a sharp sword and a sharper sword When they meet, they instantly dislike each other, so you know it s the beginning of a strange friendship Before long they find themselves in the employ of a mysterious and threatening man There is also a fair amount of chasing after girls, chasing after treasure, and staying one step ahead of the law.It s a formula that should work, but it had it s flaws First off is an art style that was inconsistent and sometimes not that good Secondly, the overuse o...

More reviews and no fluff on the blog

I was left scratching my head at what this graphic novel was meant to be the blurb about loveable scamps must mean doltish man boys and adventure must mean cliched, forced, silly and not in a fun way storylines The art was wildly inconsistent and the lack of attention to detail staggering Something went very wrong here between concept and execution and the result was a muddled and boring attempt at sophomoric humor.Story Two Brits meet up, each believing to be the boyfriend of the same girl who is then immediately kidnapped in front of their eyes by the legendary Spring Heeled Jack In trying to rescue her, they get her killed and join up later with an odd bird called The Collector who sends them on missions Cue guns and supernatural elements. If I was to describe this, I d say someone took a blender and put in Animal House, Indiana Jones, and a book on English fables and legends and here is the result Nothing feels original and honestly, I knew I was going to be in trouble when the duo face off against Spring Heeled Jack a legend I ve read in not less than ...

Not bad The first story didn t grab me, but it was all uphill after that I liked the slightly corny dialogue and the historical references.

This review originally published in Looking For a Good Book Rated 2.0 of 5The tag for this book as quoted from Goodreads starts Alaric Moebius and Basil Fox are two lovable scoundrels looking to make a quick fortune Unfortunately I didn t see it that way I saw two scoundrels who lacked a strong moral compass trying to make their fortune. This book features three stories of Alaric Moebius and Basil Fox, the latter a member of the Queen s guard and the former a stereotyped educated playboy who gets his thrills from adventure While Basil may not be stereotyped the way Alaric is, he is also less believable that Alaric as he somehow manages to be a part of the Guard but talks while on his standing duty and chooses to miss an assignment or two in favor of adventuring.Basil and Moebius bump into each other literally when saving a pretty woman, and somehow decide to become fast friends while searching for treasure Their first adventure together isn t at all what it appears to be on the surface it is much less And that s sort of the M.O for the rest of this book it ...

Leaving the S.A.S and returning to London to take a position as a guard at Buckingham Palace, Basil Fox heads to his girlfriend s house Upon his arrival, he sees her being carried off by a figure that seems to be the mythic Spring Heeled Jack and another man chasing the abductor with a handgun It seems that Cathy is the object of affection for both men, so they unite to track down her kidnapper That first instance of cooperation leads to strange, but exciting, partnership Their exploits draw the attention of a powerful collector of rare objects who makes them an offer they can t refuse They find themselves tracking down artifacts of mystical power in exotic locales. With all the romantic appeal of Indiana Jones or Lara Croft and their quests for archaeological treasures, the stories have plenty of suspense, enough cultural references ...
