Outstanding book maybe the best Boro source out there This beautiful book includes a history of the artcraft of making boro cloth and also take the reader through making if yourself in 10 progressively challenging projects Many of the projects also have small version to try before diving in full scale The photography is beautiful and includes pictures of both antiue and modern pieces Lastly the book itself is beautifully crafted with heavy paper and a sewn lay flat binding that won’t fall apart with use Worth every penny I recommend this book without reservations

Several decades ago I was in Japan a few times and while there visited flea markets and stocked up on kimonos of many kinds including the cotton indigo ones of various designs These old cotton ones sat in my closet for years but now I am pushed by this excellent book to take them all apart and redo them into useful items The instructions are clear and the illustrations are helpful plus the history of traditional uses of boro is an added bonus The book is perfect for my situation

I have done some of this work before but in very simple ways This book encourages you to use fabrics further to those usually deployed with this work Also how to use the simplest of stitches to achieve an impressive effect The text takes you from simple ideas to advanced garments with pattern included in the text So many versatile ideas with a traditional method some for beginners others with higher skill levelsA very worthwhile purchase and an ideal book to give to someone for a gift it would be perfect for the solution 'what to buy for the person with everything but they do sew'
